    Hello Everybody,

    Im a passionate java programmer and retro console fan. Im working on an own retro system frontend for raspberry pi (early stage) based on javaFX and I would like to ask what people think about this project.

    My goals are:
    * retroarch only emulators (keep it simple)
    * pure console feeling (no console logs on starting, switching emulators)
    * raspberry pi configuration out of the box (WLAN, Screen-settings, etc…)
    * Unique bluetooth controller support
    * themeable gui
    * automatic scraping/resizing covers form gamesdb

    As I sad, the project is on eary stage but it is already running on raspberry and it really looks good so far. I would love to hear what you people think and I’m waiting for feedback.

    Nice idea, love the theme, what advantage do you have over what we already have? could you not port that theme to es? 🙂

    I think RetroFX will be good for people who like an out of the box system. I hope the main advantages will be:

    * complete hidden raspberry stuff
    * automated configuration (screensize, controllers, wlan, etc…)
    * baked in website to configure roms
    * beautiful UI with JavaFX
    * less emulators but better integrated

    It is more fun and easier for me to write my own frontend instead of configuring ES

    OK,

    I’ve finished my concept art:

    Concept1

    What works:

    * RetroFX starts and shows SNES Roms with cover
    * Liberto cores integrated and can be start from RetroFX (thank you retropie)

    TODO:
    * Reimplement JavaFX GUI (Concept Art)
    * Automatic scraping (covers)
    * Menu Dialog:
    – WLAN Konfiguration Dialog
    – Controller Setup Dialog
    – etc…
    * On Screen Keyboard for Menu-Entries (like WLAN, evtl. rom search)

    NEXT:
    * Reimplement JavaFX GUI (Concept Art)

    PROPOSALS:
    * What about a rom search Dialog? Platform wide?

    You guys are not excited at the moment but you will.

    Sounds very good, Im not not sure creating something to live “alongside” emulationstation isn’t going to pick up for awhile as everyone is used to this and it works…

    I will try your builds when they are available, as i can put on a second pi..

    I wonder if covers is a design that can be implemented into emulation station…hmmmm

    Could you make hot key equal multiple button presses? Like select, start, and trigger?

    Omg, having a console-less boot screen would be amazing. When I show my retropie off to others it is a turn off to people when they see the console on boot up.

    Btw, I love the layout of the emulators. I can’t wait til this is a full thing. 😀

    One thing I would be interested to see with your build is how it handles multiple systems. Emulationstation has limitations when it comes to too many ROMs/emulators. Does your build provide more system options without the limitations of emulationstation?

    Loving the look of this! Reminds me of OpenEmu, which is my current favorite due to its simple elegance.

    Would be great if you could add a couple of “smart collections”, for example: showing all games that are 2-player, favorite games and kids games. Also it can be nice being able to see games for all emulators, sorting them by alphabet or year.

    That’s killer, looking. I really do love the look. Will this support the GPIO Control Block, as for me, this is my favorite method of hooking up arcade style controllers.
