during my time in developing the UI for EmulationStation I also have experimented to replace the static image overlay splash screen of RetroPie with an animated boot splash like in Debian or Red Hat Linux. These distributions use a tool called plymouth and its script language to display animated boot screens. I have made a boot screen featuring the Mushberry logo that was created by a member of this forum. Below the Mushberry there is a line of dots pulsing one after another. Unfortunately I have no video of it.
See these sites for information on plymouth, how to set it up and hiding as much console output during boot as possible:
It’s a real pity there wasn’t much more support for this. We’ve recently integrated video support for splaashcreens but I still feel like plymouth is a much better boot option- I’ve been wanting to try this out- I’ll test it when I’ve got time and if I’m able to get it to work I’ll post my steps to get it to work and also a simple video of it booting-
