at the first boot i made the changes so that i can choose with the controller.
then after reaching step 4 (the lifehacker article) i could not find the sections of configuring the controller for the games themselves.

    do you understand me?

i’ve a super nintendo controller if i’m not wrong.

Follow our instructions instead of a 3rd party website – https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/First-Installation

you can reconfigure it from the “start menu”. if you are unable to navigate, you could unplug the controller, and it should prompt and you could use a keyboard, or alternatively go to retropie-setup and choose to re-install emulationstation from binary which will reset the config.
