    So on a clean install trying two different cards I type “emulationstation” a couple errors pop up, the logo screen flashes, and then a bunch more errors ending with the PI locked. The error is “tried to write on log file before it was open” Had it working a couple days ago, but did a clean install because the emulator was detecting three game pads and the config was all messed up.

    System:
    Pi2, Kingston 32g(x2), XB1 controller

    clean install on rasbian or via the last image ?

    There was a little bug introduced earlier today and then fixed, so it might work if you do a fresh install again. If it still fails, please copy the install log off from ~/RetroPie-Setup/logs/ and upload it to pastebin.com or similar. thanks.
